Bailey

Bailey has been part of the Dog Cabin Sanctuary family since 2021.

Bailey is deeply devoted to the people and dogs she knows and loves. Her protective nature runs deep, and in the past, her fear and instinct to guard the people she trusted led to several biting incidents. Because of this, finding a safe and appropriate home became increasingly difficult.

When Bailey came to the sanctuary, we didn't see a "bad dog." We saw a loyal dog who needed understanding, structure, and an environment where she could feel secure.

Here, Bailey has found exactly that.

She loves spending her days with her sanctuary family, especially her best friends, Belle, Tazzer and Rita. Whether they're heading out on a pack walk, exploring the property together, or relaxing in the backyard, Bailey is happiest when she's surrounded by the dogs and people she trusts.

Bailey reminds us that loyalty is a beautiful quality when it's met with patience and understanding. At Dog Cabin Sanctuary, she doesn't have to live up to anyone's expectations—she simply gets to be Bailey.

Peek a Boo

Peek-a-Boo, or simply Boo as we lovingly call her, joined Dog Cabin Sanctuary in June of 2024.

Boo lives with fly-biting syndrome and is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm disease. While those challenges are part of her story, they certainly don't define who she is.

If you ask Boo, life is meant to be enjoyed one sniff at a time.

She is a true master of the "art of the walk." Every adventure is carefully planned around the perfect scent, the best patch of grass, and, of course, a well-timed roll in the sunshine. There's no rushing Boo. She reminds all of us that the journey is every bit as important as the destination.

In a world that always seems to move too fast, Boo has become one of our greatest teachers. She has shown us how to slow down, notice the little things, and find joy in the simplest moments.

She doesn't just stop and smell the roses—she inspires the rest of us to do the same.

At Dog Cabin Sanctuary, Boo reminds us every day that happiness isn't found in how fast you get somewhere. It's found in every step along the way.

Lucky

Lucky came to Dog Cabin Sanctuary in 2023, carrying a heart that had been broken more than once.

After spending nine years with the same family, his world suddenly changed. A new living situation wasn't the right fit for Lucky, whose severe separation anxiety made it difficult for him to cope. When his anxiety led to destructive behavior, his family made the heartbreaking decision to find him a new home.

For a dog who had spent his entire life with one family, that kind of loss is hard to understand.

When Lucky arrived at the sanctuary, we knew he didn't need to be "fixed." He needed stability, companionship, and a place where he would never have to worry about being left behind again.

Today, Lucky is one of the beloved elders of the pack. He looks forward to his daily pack walks, enjoys every moment spent with his "Pack." and has earned the title of the sanctuary's wise old grandpa. The other dogs seem to adore him, and his calm, gentle presence has become a comforting part of life here.

Lucky reminds us that growing older doesn't make a dog any less deserving of love. In fact, senior dogs often have the biggest hearts of all.

At Dog Cabin Sanctuary, Lucky has found what every dog deserves—a family that isn't going anywhere. 

Anika

When Anika came to Dog Cabin Sanctuary in 2022, we thought she'd only be with us for a little while.

With her adorable Boxer face and playful personality, we were certain she'd find a forever home in no time. But life had other plans. Anika struggled with several health issues, and her deep fear of unfamiliar people—especially men—made it clear that finding the right home would be far more difficult than we had hoped.

So Anika stayed.

And somewhere along the way, the sanctuary became exactly where she was meant to be.

Today, Anika is one of the happiest members of the pack. She loves exploring the property on our daily pack wanders, where she can sniff, run, and simply enjoy being a dog. One of her favorite jobs is welcoming new puppies as they arrive. With quiet confidence and a gentle heart, she helps them settle in, making them feel safe and part of the family from the very beginning.

Anika may not have found the forever home we once imagined for her, but she found something just as special—a place where she is loved, understood, and exactly where she belongs.

Sophie

Sophie came to Dog Cabin Sanctuary in 2022. From the very beginning, it was clear that the world felt like a frightening place to her. New people, unfamiliar dogs, new environments, and unexpected situations were all overwhelming. A foster home was tried, but it quickly became clear that what Sophie needed most was stability, patience, and a place where she could build trust at her own pace.

She found that at the sanctuary.

Over time, the people here and the sanctuary pack became Sophie's safe place. What was once unfamiliar is now her family, and watching her confidence grow has been one of our greatest joys.

Sophie especially adores her best friend, Anika. Together, they enjoy daily pack walks, exploring the trails, and racing across the fields. When Sophie runs, she stretches out with long, graceful strides that remind us of a gazelle—free, happy, and completely in the moment.

Sophie may never be the kind of dog who loves every new experience, and that's okay. Here, she doesn't have to. She has a home where she's understood, accepted, and loved just as she is.

Rita

Rita came to Dog Cabin Sanctuary in 2021 after her family made the difficult decision that they could no longer safely care for her. While she loved and trusted her human mom, she struggled with fear around other people, and that fear sometimes led to biting incidents.

When Rita arrived, we didn't see a "problem dog." We saw an incredibly intelligent dog who needed understanding, consistency, and a place where she could simply be herself.

Today, Rita is thriving.

She absolutely loves life at the sanctuary, where she has plenty of room to run, play with her canine friends, and enjoy the daily routines that help her feel safe and confident. Her sharp mind and willingness to learn have also made her a wonderful demonstration dog during training sessions, helping others better understand canine behavior and communication.

Belle - Honorary Sanctuary Dog

Belle has been part of our family since 2014, when she was rescued from Mexico and came to live with us. Soon after arriving, she battled both parvovirus and distemper. Against all odds, she survived—but the illnesses left her with permanent neurological disabilities.

There were times in those early days when we truly believed we were going to lose her. She was so fragile, so sick, and her quality of life was uncertain. More than once, we scheduled an appointment to say goodbye.

And every single time... Belle changed our minds.

Just when we thought she was ready to let go, she'd show us a spark—a wag of her tail, a determined little walk, or a look that seemed to say, "I'm not finished yet." So we'd cancel the appointment and give her a little more time.

That "little more time" has turned into more than a decade of love.

Belle has never seen herself as disabled. She simply sees herself as part of the family. She does her best to join us on walks, proudly supervises the younger dogs with plenty of enthusiastic barking, and is happiest when she's stretched out in the soft green grass, soaking up the sunshine with her pack nearby.

Sport - Adoptable

Sport is living proof that a dog's worth should never be measured by how long they've been waiting.

Before coming to Dog Cabin Sanctuary, Sport spent two long years in a shelter after being found as a stray. As time passed and no one chose him, he ended up on the euthanasia list—not because he had done anything wrong, but simply because he had run out of time.

That's when we stepped in.

Sport is exactly why Dog Cabin Sanctuary exists. He's a wonderful dog who simply needed someone to believe in him and give him the chance he deserved.

Today, Sport is one of the sweetest, smartest, and most obedient dogs you'll ever meet. He loves his daily walks, stretching his legs on a good run, and spending time with his sanctuary family. He's affectionate, eager to please, and always happy to be part of the pack.

The best part? Sport is still looking for a forever home.

Brody 

Brody has never known another home—and we wouldn't have it any other way.

He arrived at Dog Cabin Sanctuary when he was just four weeks old after being found abandoned by a kind person in town, who brought him to a veterinarian. From there, his journey led him to us.

Brody was a fragile little puppy. He had almost no hair, was battling skin issues, and his little belly was so distended from worms. It took time, patience, and a whole lot of love, but watching him transform into the happy, healthy dog he is today has been nothing short of incredible.

Because the sanctuary is the only home he's ever known, Brody can be a little shy when he's away from the familiar faces and places that make him feel safe. But here, he's completely in his element.

His happiest moments are spent racing across the fields with his sanctuary family, playing with his canine friends, and enjoying the freedom of four safe acres to explore. Watching Brody run is a beautiful reminder of just how far he's come—from a tiny abandoned puppy to a confident, joyful member of the pack.

Majken - used to be Aspen

Every dog has a story, and sometimes all they need is a chance to write a new chapter.

Majken came to Dog Cabin Sanctuary from a Louisiana shelter, where she had been overlooked because she was fearful of men. We knew there was so much more to her than her fears, and we couldn't wait to welcome her into our family.

Since arriving at the sanctuary, Majken has truly blossomed. She is playful, goofy, and always ready to make every walk and playgroup a little more exciting. Whether she's racing around with her dog friends or showing off her fun-loving personality, there's never a dull moment when Majken is around.

When she arrived, her name was Aspen, but since we already had an Aspen in the family, we gave her a new name—Majken. It fits her perfectly and marks the beginning of her fresh start.

Majken has a sweet heart and a playful spirit.  While she's still learning that not all people are scary, she grows a little more confident every day, surrounded by patience, kindness, and the love of her sanctuary family.

Majken reminds us that healing doesn't happen overnight, but with time, understanding, and a place where she belongs, even the most timid hearts can learn to trust again.

Pumpkin and Apple

Pumpkin and Apple have spent a lifetime together, and here, they'll spend the rest of it side by side.

These sweet senior souls are both blind and were facing euthanasia when their owner could no longer care for them after moving into assisted living. Thankfully, a compassionate veterinarian refused to give up on them, and their journey led them to Dog Cabin Sanctuary.

Now, their days are filled with everything every dog deserves. They confidently explore our four-acre fenced sanctuary together, noses leading the way on their daily adventures. They know every trail, every scent, and every cozy spot to nap. Most importantly, they've found a family—not just in us, but in the entire pack.

Sweet Pea - Adoptable

Sometimes the dogs who need us most have a way of finding us.

Sweet Pea wandered into our yard just a couple of weeks before she was due to give birth. It was as if she knew she had found a safe place. Soon after arriving, she welcomed four beautiful puppies into the world, and after growing up surrounded by love and care, each one found a wonderful forever home in Arizona.

Now it's Sweet Pea's turn.

At about three years old, Sweet Pea is everything her name suggests—gentle, loving, and full of affection. She absolutely adores people, gets along beautifully with other dogs, and has a way of forming an incredibly deep bond with the people she loves. Whether she's joining you for a walk, playing with her canine friends, or simply staying close by your side, Sweet Pea is happiest when she's with her family.

She is spayed, fully vaccinated, and is currently undergoing slow-kill heartworm treatment. Her compatibility with cats is unknown.

Sweet Pea came to the sanctuary looking for a safe place to raise her babies. She found that here. Now she's waiting for the one thing she hasn't had yet—a forever family to call her own. 

Sally - Adoptable

Sally's story began with love.

She was found beneath a vacant trailer, doing everything she could to protect and care for her five puppies. Together, they made their way to Dog Cabin Sanctuary, where Sally could finally trade survival for safety. Thanks to her devotion and a lot of loving care, all five of her puppies have since found wonderful homes in Colorado.

Now it's Sally's turn to simply be a dog.

At around three years old, this beautiful Plott Hound is full of curiosity, charm, and an adventurous spirit. She loves following every interesting scent, exploring new places, and turning an ordinary walk into an exciting treasure hunt. Sally is intelligent, affectionate, and always ready for her next adventure.

Like many hounds, Sally has a talented nose and can be a bit of an escape artist if something catches her attention. She'll do best with a securely fenced yard and a family who understands that following scents is simply part of who she is.

After being an incredible mom and overcoming such a difficult beginning, Sally deserves a home where she can finally be the one who is cared for, cherished, and loved.

Sheeva - Adoptable

Some dogs choose their people. Sheeva chose us.

When our neighbors moved away, Sheeva was left behind. For months, she faithfully waited for the family she loved to come home. Every day she would stop by our house for food and fresh water, but when she was finished, she'd return to their empty home to sleep outside and keep watch. Her unwavering loyalty was both beautiful and heartbreaking.

It took nearly three months before Sheeva finally accepted that no one was coming back.

Then one day, as I opened the door to feed her, she made a different choice. She walked right into the house as if to say, "I'm home now." And she was.

Since that day, Sheeva has been a cherished member of the Dog Cabin Sanctuary family, where she'll never be left behind again.

We believe Sheeva is about three years old, and she is as sweet as they come. She loves people, enjoys the company of other dogs, and is always happy to join us for walks or simply spend time by your side. Her compatibility with cats is unknown. Sheeva is spayed, fully vaccinated, and is currently undergoing slow-kill heartworm treatment.

Beck

Beck is a six-year-old mixed-breed boy with a big heart and a fresh start.

His family loved him deeply, but they found themselves in an impossible situation. Beck was an escape artist, and whenever he got loose, fear would take over. Well-meaning people trying to help would approach him, and out of panic, Beck would bite. After a second bite incident, his family was faced with an unimaginable choice—euthanasia or finding a sanctuary willing to give him another chance.

When we heard Beck's story, we knew he belonged here.

At Dog Cabin Sanctuary, Beck no longer has to be afraid. Surrounded by a secure four-acre sanctuary, loving caregivers, and a pack that welcomed him as one of their own, he's become the dog he was always meant to be.

Today, Beck spends his days exploring the trails, racing around with his canine friends, and soaking up all the love that comes with finally feeling safe. Watching him run free reminds us that sometimes all a dog needs isn't to be "fixed"—they simply need the right place to belong.

Lincoln

Lincoln loves with his whole heart.

When he loves someone, he loves them fiercely. That deep devotion to his mom was one of his greatest gifts—but it also became his greatest challenge. His strong protective instincts led to several biting incidents, leaving his family with an impossible decision. Out of love for Lincoln, they knew he either needed a sanctuary that understood dogs like him or they would have to say goodbye.

Thankfully, Lincoln's story didn't end there.

He found his way to Dog Cabin Sanctuary, where he no longer has to worry about protecting one person. Here, he has an entire family—both human and canine—and the space, routine, and understanding that allow him to simply enjoy life.

For a dog his size, Lincoln can really move! You can hear the thunder of his paws long before you see him, racing across the property to catch up with the pack. He loves running with his friends, joining every pack walk, and making the most of the freedom and security that sanctuary life provides.

Lincoln reminds us that loyalty is one of the most beautiful qualities a dog can have. Sometimes, that loyalty simply needs the right place to flourish.

At Dog Cabin Sanctuary, Lincoln doesn't have to carry the weight of protecting the world anymore. He can just be a dog—and that is exactly what he deserves.
